Miles Toyota’s Sneaky Kiwi

Hand-picked by the Miles Toyota team for its bright, playful, and quintessentially Kiwi design, our elephant is a project of local artist Gemma Rae’s imagination and features a variety of local flora, fauna, and playful characters. Throughout the design are twenty-three kiwis hiding amongst the native birds, bugs, and greenery.

Be sure to visit Sneaky Kiwi for a closer look at the incredible artwork. You’ll find our elephant located in central Christchurch near the entrance to Ballantynes.

About the artist

Local artist Gemma Rae is the creative genius who brought our elephant to life. As someone who’s always had a huge passion for the arts, she’s a professional dancer and choreographer who works for the local Christchurch company Epic Entertainment. Gemma’s been involved in many art projects, including the iconic Giraffe and Penguins trails that previously graced the streets of Christchurch.

I was fortunate enough to have my design “Sneaky Kiwi” selected by an amazing Sponsor Miles Toyota, and to be commissioned to bring it to life! Yes, it took me forever, there were a few challenges, I never make things easy for myself, but I am so happy with the final result. How many kiwis can you spot? This spectacular trail is in support of The Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust and the incredible work they do, it’s all for them. Make sure you download the app with the map and have fun finding them all! – @Gemmaraeartist

Elephants for a good cause

Elmer’s Ōtautahi Elephant Trail will be supported by an educational programme enabling thousands of Christchurch children to participate in this family-friendly art trail. At the conclusion of the trail, the elephant sculptures will be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust, allowing them to continue the valuable work they undertake in supporting people affected by traumatic brain injuries.
