Miles Toyota Supports Grassroots Rugby

Miles Toyota is the official Community Partner of Canterbury Rugby Football Union, supporting the Farah Palmer Cup Team and, most recently, the male and female First XV competition. The competitions — the Miles Toyota Championship and Miles Toyota Cup — support local grassroots rugby in a special way.

Since 2018, Miles Toyota has been proud sponsors of the Canterbury teams and continuously looking for ways to strengthen their involvement at a local level. Supporting the First XVs felt like the perfect opportunity.

As part of the partnership, Miles Toyota enlisted the help of local rugby player Roman Tait, age 8, to celebrate a sport we love here at Miles Group. We were thrilled when Roman agreed to model for our latest billboard, celebrating community and partnership.

The day was perfect — a crisp autumn morning at Rugby Park with golden lighting, and not too cold. Roman wore his best rugby kit and local photographer Julie Gursha captured the excitement of the day beautifully.

After his photoshoot debut, we caught up with the talent’s agent (aka, his mum) to answer a few questions.

What sports does Roman play?

He loves playing footy. He’s a wee league player, but he loves all games of rugby. He plays rugby with his school mates and league for the Halswell Hornets. He does boxing, too!

What’s his favourite thing about Canterbury Rugby?

‘That Richie McCaw played.’

What’s his favourite hobby?

Roman’s mum said that was an easy one for him to answer — ‘water balloon fights on the weekends with my mates’ — and clarified that they live on a street with five of his school mates and that these fights occur weekly in the summer. Roman also said, ‘kicking the footy around the park with Dad.’ Roman’s dad happens to be Jodie Tait, Branch Manager of Cockram Kia. Talent clearly runs in the family.

We loved catching up with Roman and celebrating our partnership with Canterbury Rugby Football Union. If you’d like to learn more about Miles Toyota’s sponsorship of local rugby, find out more here. And if you see Roman’s billboard out in the wild, be sure to snap a photo!
