Miles Toyota Inspire Series Empowers Young Female Rugby Players On and Off the Field

Miles Toyota continues its commitment to developing the next generation of female rugby players through its Inspire Series.

Delivered in partnership with Canterbury Rugby and featuring Miles Toyota Ambassador and professional rugby player Amy du Plessis, the series combined rugby development with personal growth, encouraging participants to build confidence, develop leadership skills, strengthen their resilience, and explore the opportunities available within women’s rugby, while also developing their on-field skills.

Continued support

The programme is a natural extension of Miles Toyota’s long-standing commitment to rugby in Canterbury. For nearly a decade, Miles Toyota has been an integral part of the local rugby community as the Official Community Partner of Canterbury Rugby, backing the Farah Palmer Cup team and supporting community rugby through the Miles Toyota Cup, Premiership, and Championship competitions.

The Inspire Series combined classroom-style workshops with practical rugby sessions, providing participants with direct access to elite-level knowledge, mentorship, and coaching.

Across three sessions, players explored the core rugby values of courage, resilience, teamwork, integrity and respect, while also learning about mindset, leadership, confidence, goal setting and the pathways available to female athletes. Participants set personal goals at the beginning of the programme, revisiting them throughout the series and reflecting on their progress during the final session.

Kicking off the series, Amy shared insights from her own journey to becoming a Professional Rugby Player, including the challenges she has overcome, the importance of perseverance, and the lessons she has learned throughout her career.

“As a Miles Toyota Ambassador, it’s been a real privilege to be a part of the Miles Toyota Inspire Sessions over the last few weeks. It’s been really cool to see these young girls become themselves, be confident, and learn what it takes to become a Black Fern.”

Off-the-field education

Session two featured support from Canterbury Rugby personnel, including Farah Palmer Cup Head Coach Solomona Paraki, who shared insights into player development, mindset, and women’s rugby pathways, while Strength & Conditioning Coach Sophie Glass covered strength and conditioning, injury management, and physical preparation.

A Fitting Finish to an Inspiring Journey

The final session, led by Miles Toyota Ambassador Amy du Plessis, encouraged participants to reflect on their personal growth, revisit the goals they had set at the beginning of the programme, and celebrate the progress they had made. The series concluded with a shared dinner, hoodie presentation, group photo, and the opportunity to watch Canterbury Rugby’s Farah Palmer Cup teams take part in their first training of the season, providing a fitting reminder of what can be achieved through dedication, perseverance, and belief in themselves.
