Miles Toyota Customer Celebrates Second Million-Kilometre Milestone

Reaching a million kilometres in any vehicle is an incredible achievement – reaching it twice, in two different Toyotas, is something truly special. That’s exactly what Cory, a long-time Miles Toyota customer and dedicated West Coast shuttle operator, has done. His Toyota Coaster has now joined his trusty Toyota Hiace in the million-kilometre club.

We caught up with Cory from East West Coaches to hear more about this remarkable journey and the role Toyota has played in keeping his business moving day after day.

Q: Congratulations on your second Toyota reaching this million-kilometre milestone. How does this reflect Toyota reliability?

Cory: Toyota’s are not afraid to do an honest day’s work if you keep them well maintained. We own 12 Toyotas and they have all treated us well.

Q: Can you tell us how the Coaster has supported your shuttle service day to day, and how it compares to your previous Hiace?

Cory: After COVID times we outgrew the Hiace. The next best thing is a Coaster. It’s perfect for what we do – transporting passengers from the West Coast to Christchurch and returning daily. We’re doing over 800kms a day, with the best of both worlds: reliability and economic efficiency.

Q: Were there any standout moments along the way that make the Coaster’s million-kilometre journey particularly memorable?

Cory: Not having to get my hands dirty changing any engine components apart from an alternator, crank and camshaft seal, injector lines, and an exhaust manifold gasket. The rest of the engine is still factory.

Q: What’s been your secret to keeping both vehicles running so well for so long? Any maintenance habits you swear by?

Cory: Scheduled oil changes and genuine Toyota parts as required.

Q: How is the Hiace tracking for a 2,000,000km milestone – has it needed that new engine yet?

Cory: Our Hiace has been retired to a lesser role, transporting people daily to and from work locally. It currently has 1,150,000kms on the original motor and is still going strong. We’re just regassing the aircon for the first time today!
