Celebrating Sporting Excellence at the 2025 Miles Toyota Cup Final

The Miles Toyota team was thrilled to hand over the 2025 Miles Toyota Cup on Wednesday following an excellent display of rugby from both sides.

Always a highlight on the season calendar, this year did not disappoint. Even a classic Canterbury wind couldn’t keep the crowds away, with Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub packed with people ready to cheer on their team to victory. Avonside Girls’ High School showed huge grit and determination as they took on reigning champions Christchurch Girls’ High School, who ultimately seemed unstoppable as they took out their impressive 12th consecutive Miles Toyota Cup with a final score of 79 – 5.

It was an incredible game of skill and passion from both sides, showcasing the calibre of grassroots rugby talent we’re privileged to have in Canterbury – congratulations to both teams on an outstanding and hard-fought season.

We’re incredibly proud to support the Miles Toyota Competitions, and everything they represent – school pride, hard work, and a deep love for the game. Watching these young athletes play with such passion and skill is not only inspiring, it’s a clear sign that the future of Canterbury rugby is in great hands. Finals Week is always a highlight for us, and we’re honoured to stand alongside the schools, coaches, and communities who make it so special.”

Growing numbers in the women’s game

This year also saw the return of the Miles Toyota Plate, thanks to an increase in Canterbury girls out on the fields. It was Kaiapoi and Rangiora High School vying for the top spot, with Kaiapoi coming out on top in the end with a 22-5 win.

In the minor plate finals, Selwyn Combined were up against Cashmere Combined, with Selwyn clinching the win with a 31-27. In the field over, St Andrews College took the win over St Margaret’s/Rangi Ruru with a 65-10.

Congratulations to all the teams on some incredible rugby.
