Celebrating Murray Goodwin – A Miles Toyota Club Legend
Murray from Ashley RFC has been recognised as a Miles Toyota Club Legend!
Behind every local footy club are passionate people who give their all. At Ashley RFC, Murray ‘Mugsy’ Goodwin is one of those legends. A true cornerstone of the club, Murray has been Club President for over 30 years, following a decade on the field. From making sure players – whether they’re the under-6s or part of the senior team – have the support and space they need to train and play, to serving food, helping with builds, maintaining the grounds, and sourcing sponsors, Mugsy truly is the definition of a Club Legend.
“Murray, this year, celebrated 30 years as president of Ashley RFC. Murray’s commitment to rugby at Ashley RFC, but also the NCRS,U has been nothing but outstanding. Murray leads from the front ensuring players from under 6s to seniors are all enabled to play rugby. Throughout the years, his commitment to the club has never waned from groundsman, organising builds, ordering gear, cooking in the kitchen, serving food, serving in the bar, liaising with partners such as sponsors and local council green space teams.
Murray is widely respected in the North Canterbury area. Has led his club to help NCRSU deliver the Southbridge Shield events and NPC fixtures. Loburn Domain and in particular, Loburn Lower field came about through the mahi of his connections and hard work. It is now a pinnacle rugby venue in country rugby and Canterbury. Murray is truly a “rugby legend” and a worthy recipient of this award.”
