Miles Group opens Lexus of Christchurch’s new showroom

We’re thrilled to announce the grand opening of our state-of-the-art Lexus of Christchurch showroom, commemorated by a special blessing from Ngāi Tūāhuriri, an unveiling ceremony led by Phil Mauger, Mayor of Christchurch, and an exclusive evening celebration.

The Miles Group has been proudly representing Lexus in Christchurch since the early 1990s, initially starting as a sales and service outlet at ILAM Toyota before transitioning into a standalone dealership on the corners of Tuam and Montreal Streets in 1994. The opening of our all-new dealership further reinforces our commitment to not only the marque but also the people of Christchurch’s affinity for luxury vehicles.

At the heart of this commitment to excellence lies the unveiling of this sustainable and innovative showroom, meticulously designed to ensure our customers Experience Amazing at every opportunity.

We have a long history of Lexus in Christchurch dating back to the early 1990s. To be 30 odd years later here with you all in this incredibly beautiful new showroom is a testament to the love of the brand we’ve had here over three decades. So as much as this is a huge success for us, we wouldn’t be here without all of you.

In our pursuit of excellence, we extend our deepest gratitude to you, our customers, for recognising a luxury brand that aligns with your lifestyle. Your support and keen eye for quality drive us to continuously elevate our standards and exceed your expectations.

Much like a luxury brand meticulously crafts each detail to evoke a sense of refinement and sophistication, you, our customers, possess a keen understanding of what sets apart the truly luxurious. We know you appreciate that luxury extends far beyond mere materials or features; it’s about the experience it creates.

So, thank you.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Bruce and Kay Miles. Reflecting on the past 14 years since I joined this esteemed group, I am filled with gratitude for your belief in me, the Lexus brand, and the investments you’ve made that we are here to celebrate tonight.

Tonight, as we celebrate this magnificent showroom, I am compelled to express immense gratitude to two key players who made it possible. Firstly, I extend special thanks to Lead Architect Richard McGowan and Associate Alex Smith from Warren and Mahoney for their exemplary work. Secondly, my deepest appreciation goes to Daniel Parkinson and Ricky Christison and their team at Amalgamated Builders. Together, along with a dedicated team of consultants such as Powell Fenwick, Batchelar McDougall Consulting, Eliot Sinclair, Rawlinsons, and all of the important subcontractors, they have delivered this building on time and on budget. It not only meets but exceeds our expectations, setting a new benchmark for dealerships in New Zealand.

To our invaluable showroom team – Ian, Robyn, Sean, Kit and Rebekah I extend my sincerest thanks to you on the front line. A special mention goes to Ian, his dedication since day one with Lexus has been instrumental in our success. Ian’s commitment embodies the spirit of this company, and I am grateful to have him by my side on this journey. I also want to recognise the vital contributions of our behind-the-scenes heroes—our admin, service, parts, customer experience, and marketing teams. In particular, I want to express gratitude to Desiree, our events coordinator, whose hard work has made tonight’s celebration a resounding success.

We extend our gratitude to Andrew Davis, Craig Burton, and Dave Rhodes-Robinson for making it down from Lexus Head Office in Palmerston North. Your unwavering support has been invaluable in our pursuit of pushing the design boundaries for this new building. We sincerely appreciate your efforts in delivering the exceptional product that is here now and coming soon. Thank you for being instrumental in this journey.

Lastly, I extend my deepest thanks to each of you—the amazing customers of Lexus of Christchurch. Without your loyalty and support, none of this would be possible. As I look ahead, I am confident in the future of Lexus in Christchurch.

Mayor of Christchurch unveils the plaque

Following speeches, Andre invited Bruce Miles and the Mayor of Christchurch, Phil Mauger, to unveil our official Lexus of Christchurch plaque which marked the special occasion.

About our sustainable showroom

Our new Lexus of Christchurch showroom has many notable sustainability features to optimise and minimise its energy inputs, in keeping with the Lexus brand’s commitment to seamlessly blend opulence with a commitment to sustainability. Designed by Warren & Mahoney architects and built by Amalgamated Builders, the new premises truly set the standard.

Solar panels powering EV charging and building infrastructure

The new site features 39 solar panels that will sit atop the roof, providing 20,000kW of electricity per year to the showroom. Moreover, as Lexus currently offers two electric vehicles (the UX 300e and RZ 450e) the dealership features EV charging stations for customers and retail vehicles, with much of the power coming from these solar panels.

Excess waste diverted from landfill

70% of construction waste from the building site has been diverted from going to landfills, thanks to compliance with the New Zealand Construction and Demolition Waste Reporting Criteria. Throughout the building process, preference has been given to materials and finishes with environmental quality certifications including Declare, Redlist Free, and Greentag. Among this includes 100% recycled, carbon-neutral carpet, 95% of the building’s steel sourced from a Responsible Steel Maker, and 95% of all timber being certified by a recognised forest certification scheme, or from a reused source.
