Golden Steering Wheel Award Goes to Kia Sorento
The fourth-generation Kia Sorento has been awarded the coveted Golden Steering Wheel Award 2020 in Germany.
Kia’s fourth-generation luxury flagship SUV managed to snatch up the Golden Steering Wheel Award, despite tough competition from the likes of Aston Martin DBX, BMW X6, and more.
The German automobile prize is awarded by Auto Bild magazine, a prestigious German magazine that sells more than seven million copies worldwide each month, along with a Sunday newspaper. When readers of both these publications voted the Kia Sorento into the final round of the ‘large SUV’ category, the new electrified plug-in hybrid sealed the deal.
The final round of the competition tasked vehicles with showing off their skills around the DEKRA Laussitzring track in northeast Germany. The Kia Sorento performed effortlessly, finishing with the highest number of points in its category. The judges were impressed, but we weren’t surprised.
“The predecessor was already good, but the new Sorento is an evolution. It now drives just as smoothly as it looks. There’s plenty of space, smart interior details, voice control, safety features – things that can be enjoyed everywhere.”
If you’re not familiar with the fourth-generation Sorento, prepare to be acquainted. A premium 7-seater SUV with an active all-wheel-drive system and 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine will power through your summer adventures. With an 8” colour touchscreen, smartphone connectivity, and more, this modern marvel is luxury with an affordable price tag.
Even more excitingly, the diesel-powered range will be joined by a plug-in hybrid variant featuring a 1.6 T-GDi Hybrid AWD drivetrain, created to maximise fuel economy and lower emissions.
