NZ’s Best Vehicles: The Stuff Top Car Awards

Miles Group is delighted to see the return of Top Cars 2024. After a two-year hiatus an esteemed panel of judges has put the best-of-the-best from the previous calendar year through their paces to discover the pinnacle of automotive innovation and engineering. With over 80 cars tested in preparation for the awards, the Top Cars 2024 finalists truly represent the cream of the crop in the New Zealand automotive market.

As a company dedicated to proudly representing a diverse range of respected vehicle brands throughout New Zealand, we are thrilled to see a number of vehicles from various brands in our portfolio being nominated as top 3 finalists across multiple categories. We eagerly anticipate the final results and will promptly update you once the winners are announced. Keep reading to explore our finalists and discover what Stuff has to say about each one.

Stuff Top Small Car finalist: Cupra Born

The CUPRA Born BEV represents CUPRA’s first all-electric vehicle and is the ultimate combination of electrification and performance. A triple threat of stimulating design, instantaneous performance and an all-electric drive, it’s perfect for those that desire a ride that’s environmentally conscious but dynamic and exciting at the same time.

The Cupra Born is available at Archibalds.

Cupra Born

A surprisingly lovable and sharp looking electric warm hatch. The Cupra Born is the smallest and most charming of Volkswagen’s MEB-based pure electric products to hit the market last year, bringing a proper fun factor to the performance EV space in a sharply designed package.

Stuff Top Family Car (under $60,000) finalist: Kia Niro HEV

The electric revolution is here, bringing with it a quantum leap in the way cars are built, powered and driven. At Kia, our designers and engineers are already moving ahead, creating a new class of advanced electric vehicles to inspire you today and into the future.

The Kia Niro is available at Miles Kia.

“Kia’s quirky electrified SUV was a Stuff favourite thanks to its polished hybrid system and funky styling. If an SUV can lay claim to being the most versatile on the market, it could well be the Kia Niro. Heavily updated last year with eye-catching sci-fi styling, the Niro brings the electrified HEV, PHEV, BEV powertrain trinity to the table. It’s the HEV variant that is represented here, a cracking hybrid option for those wanting to stand out from the pack.”

Stuff Top Family Car (over $60,000) finalist: Kia EV9

Imposing, capable and comfortable, the fully electric Kia EV9 sets a new benchmark for full-sized SUV’s. Whether it’s cruising over 500 kilometres* on a single charge or towing the boat to the bach, with the new seven-seat EV9 you have the power and range to go wherever life’s adventures take you.

The EV9 is available at Miles Kia.

Kia EV9

A fully electric behemoth with very distinctive looks. This six-figure Kia is one of the brand’s most ambitious projects. Also electric but with a much, much bigger footprint is the latest utter Goliath from Korea, the Kia EV9. Larger than life (and frankly almost every other SUV money can buy), the EV9 is also a technology powerhouse, setting the tone for Kia’s next generation of plug-in vehicles.

Stuff Top Light Commercial finalist: Volkswagen Amarok

The all‑new Amarok ute, more capable than ever to tackle any challenge, and conquer every terrain. Built tough from the ground up with cutting-edge technology, a bold redesign, and premium comfort ensuring it’s not just another ute — it’s a force to be reckoned with.

The Volkswagen Amarok is available at Miles Continental.

Volkswagen Amarok

Based on the same architecture as the Ranger, Volkswagen has done plenty to make the Amarok feel distinct. They say ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’. Perhaps that was on Volkswagen Group’s mind when it elected to base its all-new Volkswagen Amarok on the Ranger platform. Volkswagen’s take on the Ranger feels much more bespoke than you would expect, making it a very tempting alternative.

Stuff Top Light Commercial finalist: Volkswagen Multivan

You already love the new-generation multi-functional, versatile van and now it’s changing the game by bringing the first plug-in hybrid solution with the Volkswagen Multivan Plug-in Hybrid Electric. Providing up to seven seats and delivering the perfect combination of practicality, comfort, and safety for whatever your needs may be. Hybrid power provides you with low emissions and the range assurance you need to tackle any long journeys ahead.

The Volkswagen Multivan is available at Miles Continental.

Versatility in more ways than one for Volkswagen’s most mainstream van. The Amarok isn’t the only Volkswagen up for a commercial vehicle Top Cars trophy, with the Volkswagen Multivan also earning a spot in the show. The Multivan and its predecessors have always been refinement leaders in the van space, with Veedub always judicious in ensuring that its commercials echo the same traits as its passenger cars.

Stay tuned as we eagerly await the announcement of the winners and the Reader’s Choice Award recipient.
