CUPRA Born Seaqual bucket seats

SEAQUAL YARN, explained

If you’ve been perusing vehicle listings recently or keeping an eye on some of the newer models hitting the market, you’ve likely come across ‘SEAQUAL Upholstery’ or ‘SEAQUAL YARN’ and wondered exactly what it is.

Simply put, SEAQUAL YARN is a high-quality, 100% post-consumer recycled polyester fabric, crafted from plastic waste extracted from the Mediterranean Sea, alongside other oceans, rivers, and estuaries.

What makes this innovative fabric so special is that it’s almost identical in physical properties to virgin polyester, so you still get that new vehicle feeling whilst helping to reduce plastic waste in our oceans.

What vehicles use SEAQUAL Yarn?

From the sea to CUPRA Born Seats – CUPRA and SEAQUAL INITIATIVE teamed up to create sustainable bucket seats for the all-new CUPRA Born, using marine plastic. This innovative material is perfectly in-line with CUPRA’s commitment to innovation, faithful to the sustainable philosophy of the all-electric Born.

Overseas, you’ll also find SEAQUAL YARN in the Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda.

Whilst the use of this incredibly innovative fabric may be currently small in New Zealand, we look forward to seeing it on a growing number of spec sheets in the future – particularly in the electric vehicle segment.
